Project 2 - Facade Final

 Ground floor plan - showroom
 Second floor plan - workshop
 Third floor plan - studio
 Fourth floor plan - meeting/presentation
Fifth floor plan - roof terrace

Rather than just approaching the facade as something to be "stuck-on" the building, I chose instead to focus on the users of the building - the fashion designers. The most important thing to me was to provide a quality work environment. Although the design collective building is a shared space, not everyone has the same preference of space which they work best in. Therefore, my facade creates different working environments through the manipulation of light penetrating the facade. I used smilar sized wood slats, but spaced them differently to create areas of the facade which are either completely open, semi-open, or semi-closed. Instead of being moveable louvers, as you see in many high-tech buildings today, mine are fixed. Instead of having to mess with adjusting the facade everytime you enter a space to work, this lets the designers choose their own space in which to work. Any "movement" takes place metaphorically on the inside. The interior is organized in such a way that the second floor workshop and the third floor studio are connected by a material wall along a staircase. The staircase is transformed into a useable space by allowing the designers access to materials in both studio and workshop, and allowing them to step off to the side if they wish to sit and read or think. The importance of this vertical material library is shown on the exterior by popping the double-height space outward. It is semi-closed however, both to protect the materials from too much direct sunlight, and to represent my original concept of the hidden vs the revealed. Here are some model photos and drawings of my building. Feel free to critique!
